"Your Love Is A Shadow"

This is the first track off our debut album. The song was inspired by a podcast I had heard about the human experimentation program MKULTRA. This same podcast also discussed actor Cary Grant and his use of LSD in the early 1960's and how it was his wife Betsy Drake who 'turned him on' to it. The song is about what one will do for love no matter how far her drug 'pushes you to the depths of your mind'.

Also look for this song to be included in the upcoming 2011 Canadian Indie Film 'Unlucky'!

Unlucky (2011)

'we in the movies'

Well not really but we have been fortunate enough to have one of our songs ('Your Love Is A Shadow') chosen to be a part of this film....Unlucky. We are not sure yet what scene our song will make it into, but if it's anything like this we are down!

Thanks again to Joel Silver and the production staff for making this happen. We hope the film hits many theatres in each and everyone of your neighbourhoods.

SHOW - December 9th @ El Mocambo

Hi friends, been a long time. The DPRS are playing what looks like their last Toronto show of 2011. It's for a great cause. We are headlining, check out the details HERE.

Friday, August 19, 2011

The DPRS are...

M.Jacques, B.Quinn, J.Fitzpatrick, G.Jonez
August 2011

Lots of creativty happening right now. Two new songs are under way. A pure pop classic by G.Jonez. Sounding solid, but still so many directions we can go. Not sure of a title...'like james dean'? BQ and I threw one done while the other guys were on break. Mike says it reminds him of Lou Reed, nice one Mike. I'll give more song content later but for now it's called 'through irony and fear'.

We met up last night for press photos and to complete a video treatment, both were a success. Can't wait to tell you more!

SHOW Review - Out of the Box Fest, by Mechanical Forest Sound

Awesome time playing the first ever Out Of the Box fest. Esecially loved playing infront of a large screen displaying god knows, in 3D.

Thanks to Randal Harris for putting this all together and for including us.

Here is a brief description of our set and a photo from our friend Mechanical Forest Sound:

"I was more settled in as Davey Parker Radio Sound took the stage. Playing their first show with a new drummer (welcome to Mike Jacques), the band pumped out a series of snarling nuggets".

And congrats to our new drummer Hawaii Mike for his excellent live debut with the band. It sounded nothing like a debut.

Hope to see you in a town near you.

i've been waiting

After entering The DPRS into mispace in 06 I quickly discovered The Hoa Hoa's & they quickly became one of my favorite bands. Since 08 it has secretly been my goal to share a stage with these beautiful psychedelic giants but it never happened, until this Friday night. I know it's a fest gig, but its still a major honour to go on right before them. Pop, Drone, Pedals & sonic bloom friends. July 2011 has been amazing.

SHOW - July 19 @ The Horseshoe Tavern

The Davey Parker Radio Sound make their Horseshoe Tavern debut July 19th. Bucket list...yeah I think so. We are playing with none other than ELEANOR FRIEDBERGER from the Fiery Furnaces. Performing a number of cuts I imagine from her debut solo album. A couple other solid bands will be on the bill with us. Sleeper Agent from Kentucky!) and Vas Vega (Toronto - new band to us). And this shit is free. Aight.

Fun Fact > first time I hit up the horshoe tavern was approx 1999. my concert going days hadn't really begun yet, so the horseshoe vibe kinda wasn't my thing. But with out of town high school buddies anything can happen. Paul suggested horseshoe, horseshoe, horsehose. I reluctantly said yes and found myself face to face with these fucking guys:

now there is probably somone out there who will say that 'no way gwar ever played the horseshoe'. perhaps that cat may be correct. doesnt change the fact that the first band i ever saw at the horseshoe looked like this.

safe to say i got the hell out of there, hit up gorilla monsoons next door and got my drunk on.

see you on July 19th at the horseshoe!!

Mr.Atavist, From the Source "In A Land Of Wolves and Thieves"

MR.ATAVIST.COM

Filtering down from Toronto, The Davey Parker Radio Sound move between early garage revivalism and straight up rural/roots tinged rock, with a dollop of psych on top. It's a lean, stripped down affair that calls to mind other Toronto outfit Action Makes. TDPRS isn't as 'heavy' as Action Makes, but their interpretation of garage-psych rock finds them drinking and playing at the same bars. TDPRS tackle straight up rock on cuts like I Paid for My Baby to more psych tinged rock like The Living City and Your Love is a Shadow. It's all undercut with a rustic bent that raises it's head more than once; you can't write songs about Houston and Trains without it. It's not all silos, flannel and sweat though beating you over the head: hints of more modern psych poke through more often than not (check the break in the Book of Faces waving its flag) putting one foot in the here and now, while the other is firmly back at home in the garage keeping tabs on the swagger and bluster.

mighty cheers mr.atavist.
and for a very sweet podcast hit em up at THE SUNRISE OCEAN BENDER
sooooooooo worth it

Two Way Monologue article "Catching up with the Davey Parker Radio Sound"

Not much to say as this story sums up perfectly our relationship with Dan @ Rancho. He says some very kind things about yours truly. He even goes as far as recommending our set at NXNE....and its not even at his venue.

To all you bands playing Rancho NXNE 2011 paint yourselves lucky because Dan will do everything to get you a packed house everynight. While some places you will never hear a peep from.

Cheers Dan. We will see you soon.

In A Land Of Wolves And Thieves - info

Hello friends. Our album is now complete and you can download it here for free. The album title comes from a lyric in a Bob Dylan song 'Trust Yourself'...yes we are aware that song is on 'Empire Burlesque'. Based on the lyrics, moods, and reoccuring themes of the songs that line captured it all perfectly.

Recording started on a blustery winter morning February 2010 at Chemical Sound Studios in Toronto. We were for three days 11am-10pm mostly with Jay Sad and periodically with Dean. We recorded 10 songs of which 6 made the cut. The remaining four would not be recorded until over a year later at our own jam space. It`s interesting to look back now and to remember how feverishly we worked to get those ten songs done during the three days only to scrap four of them after we left. This I believe in large part had to do with our growing as a live band. We were starting to get a rep for how rowdy and rocking our shows were that something like `Amber`s Down The Hill` just wasn`t fitting anymore.

While the pressure was heavy and moments of vulnerability would hit often there were moments where the band was able to step away from it all...the dart championships, driving into the largest crowd at Yonge & Dundas not knowing Canada men`s hockey team won gold, Star Wars movie shoot in Chemical Sound, playing and headlining our first show ever at Sneaky Dees in the middle of recording, or Ian rocking our world on trumpet for his part on `Flashing Of The Number`.

Cut to about a year later we had worked three brand new songs into our set,`Your Love Is A Shadow`, `The One You Love For Free`, and `Down Night Owl`. Each of these were received very well at NXNE 2010 that it was decided we record them for the album at our jam space. One more track `Houston` would be recorded less a month before mastering.

This brings us to now. The album is complete, and it is free. In the next week or so I will post the lyrics and explanations behind them...because I love that shit.

We hope you enjoy,

Jason, The Davey Parker Radio Sound

Elvis Mondays is a music showcase on Mondays at The Drake Underground. No cover. Launched by William New, it has been a stronghold of indie culture and rising bands for several decades, from Broken Social Scene, Peaches, Change Of Heart, and Billy Talent, to most recently Spiral Beach, The Miles, and The People Of Canada. On top of that, included is the Starving Artist Buffet, so come early to indulge in a meal! The Elvis Mondays series continues to be the breeding ground of some ofToronto's most daring and original music talent.

cats are scared 70% of their lives

Overall a successful mix session in the batcave. Worked on 'I Gotta Know'...drums, guitars, vocals all sounding great....plus a change in direction for the chorus...kinda digging it....definetely some new life.

Fooled around a bit on 'Sixties Gold'. Some weird 'moog' sounds added to the front and intro confused G on many levels, probably best to remove it. While the track is a band fav I'm not sure it's going to make the cut. Not that it's not on par with the rest of the album material, it just doesn't fit with the rock, psych, garage shiz...same thing with 'Ambers'. I will defend it as one of the best pop songs to be created in the last 3 years, but it too just wont fit. Maybe we will sneak it in as a b-side, or something you can find on our internet website..

Some recent developments due to this session surfaced that a fourth new track may be recorded....more on that later.

ben's back,
engineer/producer/sensitive soul monitor, a very patient man having to listen to G and I argue about recording vocals standing up or lying down in a sandbox.
